In support of The Great Big Green Week and the work of local community group Sustainable Wychwoods, we are pleased to announce our pledge to help connect communities with the local landscape, reflecting the spirit of 'Together for Good'.
“We pledge to start connecting people with the landscapes of the North East Cotswolds by creating a linked network of QR code information points that showcase how farmers and landowners are delivering food production, nature recovery and climate action, helping communities discover and engage with the environmental work happening around them.”
Building on the success of our 2023 pilot, we pledge to develop a connected network of QR code information points across parts of the North East Cotswolds, working with farmers and landowners to bring the story of food production, nature recovery, climate action and sustainable land management to life.
As well as looking to install new QR codes, we will work to link with and complement existing QR code trails and interpretation points across the region, creating a more joined-up experience for residents and visitors. Located along public footpaths, access points and key locations, these interactive signs will help people better understand how local farmers and landowners are delivering nature recovery alongside food production and environmental stewardship.
By scanning a QR code, visitors will be able to access videos, stories and up-to-date information about the work taking place across the landscape, including:
Wildflower margins – supporting pollinators and contributing to nature recovery.
Hedgerows – storing carbon, connecting habitats and enhancing the historic landscape.
Ponds and wetlands – helping to reduce flood risk while creating valuable habitats for wildlife.
Soil health – how farmers manage soils to improve resilience, store carbon and produce food sustainably.
Livestock grazing – how carefully managed grazing can support biodiversity and habitat restoration.
Crop choices – understanding what is being grown and how farming decisions support both food production and nature recovery.
Pollinator projects – the insects being supported and the essential role they play in healthy ecosystems.
Water management – practical measures to reduce runoff, improve water quality and protect local rivers.
Through this initiative, we aim to strengthen connections between people and the countryside, helping residents and visitors understand the vital role that farmers and landowners play in delivering nature recovery, climate action and sustainable food production across the North East Cotswolds.
